Time for a Resurrection

April 12, 2010 – 10:31 pm

How many times have you wanted something, but were “Not Ready” to receive it? By embracing the moment, we can open ourselves to the wisdom and glory in the present instead of encasing ourselves in a tomb. Today, like Easter, is a perfect day to resurrect ourselves by renewing our thoughts and opening our hearts.

Easter symbolizes Jesus’ rise from the tomb. Whether you believe this really happened or not is neither here nor there. What is important is the metaphysical meaning behind Jesus’ resurrection. His rising demonstrates that we have the power to resurrect ourselves from the tomb of negativity by embracing a new way of thinking.

We can do this at anytime. We don’t have to wait until Easter, or the New Year. Each time we rise, we can decide to do something new, to think a new thought. We don’t even have to wait until tomorrow. We can decide with our next deep breath to resurrect and embrace a new way of thinking, feeling, and acting.

Here are three thought patterns that prevent us from resurrecting in the heat of the moment.

1. Rigid expectations- I’m definitely guilty as charged on this one. Sometimes I see my way so clearly that if situations don’t go as I plan them, it’s devastating to my spirit. I’m learning to surrender. It’s a process, but if I want to live a long happy life, I’d better loosen up a bit and embrace the moment for what it is.

2. Not embracing the moment for what it is- When my sister was in town, I bought tickets for her, my husband, and me to see Dialog in the Dark. We arrived late, so ended up seeing the Bodies exhibit. This was great for my sister because she had missed the exhibit in Milwaukee. She really didn’t know what Dialog in the Dark was anyway. Although the exhibit turned out to be fantastic, I was emotionally stuck on experiencing Dialog in the Dark. I tried to relax, but was still boiling on the inside. I’m sure I will have other opportunities to practice this lesson.

3. Forgetting that there is a higher Divine order in operation- As my sister and I prepared to head out the door on a recent morning, I pushed the “ON” button on the keypad that controls our home alarm system.   For some reason, the words “Not Ready” kept appearing on the screen and the system wouldn’t activate. I didn’t know what the alarm meant by that, because we were ready. The door was secure, so I thought I should have been able to turn on the alarm. After a few more unsuccessful tries, I realized that the alarm wouldn’t activate unless all of the downstairs windows were closed. As I headed toward the open windows to close them, I saw that I had inadvertently left my driving directions on the table. Also, my sister noticed that she had left a book on the couch that she had intended to bring with us. The alarm not turning on prevented us from leaving the house without two important items. Of course, my sister and I laughed about this, acknowledging the fact that the universe was trying to help us out.  In our haste, we almost missed this divine opportunity to make sure we left the house with everything that we needed.

Again I ask, how many times have you wanted something, but were “Not Ready” to receive it? Instead of sulking and getting down in the dumps, try remembering the Divinity of it all.

Pray, Persist, and Prosper!
